Nagano 1998

The three guiding principles for the Nagano Games: a link to the 21st century, respect for the beauty and bounty of nature, and the furtherance of world peace and goodwill. The American Brand Company Landor was chosen to develop an identity that would express the unique character of the Nagano Olympics, with an identity system for controlling consistency across all media. The challenge was to define a total look for the games with an emblem serving as the central element. A mascot and other graphic elements would be added to shape a complete, unified Olympic image. The system would then be applied to a large family of promotional items and signature pieces. The motif of the "Look of the Games" from Nagano consists of abstract depictions of Olympic athletes in action.
